18 year old Myrica Hinich was invited to train with the Provincial Snowboarding Team. A self-taught snowboarder, who tackled the sport at 13, the Searchmont native was completely taken by surprise at the invitiation last spring to train with the team, which she garnered after impressing coaches with performances at the Provinicial snowboarding championship in Collingwood, Ont., in March, and at the nationals in Quebec, soon after.

Myrica and her parents are looking to the community in hopes of finding sponsorship to assist with full time training costs. The Snow Champs Chomp fund raising event will be held at the Pavilion at Algoma's Water Tower Inn on Monday February 5, 2007, to celebrate Algoma's Winter Winners. Tickets are available at Source for Sports, 705-256-7171, Algoma's Water Tower Inn, 705-949-8111 and the Searchmont Resort, 705-781-2340.
